Headphones and a Plastic Cup

Headphones and a Plastic Cup

My inspiration behind this design was of course the title. I thought about the type of things you see in a recording studio and how the music producer creates their music.
I was dating a music producer at the time I created this cover and I witnessed him using several different types of headphones to listen and proof his music. I decided to use the several headphones in my image.
I also listened to the music on the album and it had somewhat of a party feel to it. When I think of plastic cups at a party, I think of a red solo cup. I wanted to make the image look like it was taken in a music studio. The headphones are actually flowing out of the red cup

I used two different images and combined them together to create this cover.

What does it mean?

Where did I come up with the title of my blog? What does it mean you ask? Let’s start from the beginning where I got the inspiration for my name.

A few months ago, during one of my online classes, we were asked to create a design manifesto and this is what I came up with:

Design as your heart desires. Think outside of the box. Be Original. Inspire the minds of others. Let creativity lead the way!

I chose Design Outside the Box because it combines the first two parts of my design manifesto and if felt right.

Think outside the box: A metaphor that means to think differently, unconventionally, or from a new perspective. This phrase often refers to novel or creative thinking. (borrowed from wikipedia)

Essentially, Design Outside the Box means to design in a different and unconventional manner, not conforming to the norms of the design industry but paving your own way and creating a style different from everyone else.

Below I included one of my very first designs. This design means so much to me. I did it on the fly. It wasn’t commissioned. Just plain ol’ fun art! This design showed me that I can be creative and have a style all my own. Please leave comments and tell me what you think. Remember this was one of the first projects I did.

REVIEW: www.2shea.com

I started with a simple google search: Graphic Design. This was the first site, other than the wikipedia site that I came across.

2Shea.com is one of the most inspiring websites I’ve seen in a long time. This site is highly creative and original. The epitome of what a graphic design website should look like.

Upon first entering the site, you are greeted with this message:

Untitled

At first glance I was slightly confused as to where the rest of the site was but as soon as I was done reading the introduction the site opened up. The 2Shea company makes sure you know what they are all about.

The home page opening had me astounded. I felt like I had my own desk in their company.

From this point there are several options you can choose from looking at some of their designs on the iPhone, learning about the designers at the company by clicking the pictures on the left, or clicking on the slot machine and playing games! There are several other options on the page as well.

I challenge you to explore this site and learn more about the company. This site is built to keep you entertained as well as glued to their name. There will be no way I can forget about this design firm after viewing their site. I could only hope to one day have a website as mind-blowing and addictive as this one. I found myself playing with the painting features on the Macintosh Color Classic for quite a while.

For those of you who can’t run the flash site on your computer, they also have a link to a non-flash website.

Overall, this site is definitely enjoyable and I am hooked on their designs. Check it out!

My Daily Inspiration

This image means a lot to me. I couldn’t agree more with what it says. I use this as the desktop on my computer and I also have it hanging up on my wall. I found this poster at Walmart and I fell in love with it. The colors caught my eye and the words kept me intrigued. #Art
